Ugochukwu-Smooth C.
NZEWI
(1979) trained as a sculptor at the
University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

He is a multi-talented artist who finds expression
through sculpture, painting, installation, creative writing, music, and
poetry as well as culture activism. Ugochukwu-Smooth has been involved
in numerous arts and cultural activities, chiefly because of its
humanising essence. He has taken part in some reputable art exhibitions,
conferences, workshops within the country and abroad, as a participant
and as one of the organisers.
His recent activities include, Insakartists
International Artists Workshop, Zambia, April 28–May 14, 2004, Overcoming Maps 3,
Lagos-Porto-Novo-Lome-Ouagadougou-Bamako-Accra,
January 8–29, 2004 (A Study Tour exhibition and roundtable
Conferences, an initiative of The Pan-African Circle of Artists),
Homage To Asele, National Museum, Lagos, May 23–31, 2003,
Changing Attitudes 2002, the Fourth Biennale of the
Pan-African Circle of Artists in October 2002. Crossing Boundaries,
an exhibition and roundtable held at Centre Soleil d'Afrique, Bamako,
Mali in 2002.
He was a member of the organising committee of The
Triumph of Asele and also a curatorial assistant of Homage to
Asele, (an exhibition and colloquium to commemorate the 70th
anniversary of Prof. Uche Okeke in May 2003). In March 2003, he was
invited to the Inaugural Meeting of the Congress for Cultural Action in
West Africa, Porto-Novo, Benin Republic, March 25–28, 2003.
He is a member of
The Pan-African Circle of Artists, The
Visual Orchestra, The Art Republic and Congress for Cultural Action in
West Africa. He is the Project Coordinator of The Art Republic, Goge
Africa, and was recently appointed the Administrative Secretary of The
Pan-African Circle of Artists and Project Assistant of Afrika
Heritage 2004 (5th Biennale of The Pan-African Circle of
Artists[Forthcoming]) among other numerous engagements.
